Jeff & Emily’s backyard wedding is what dreams are made of. I will never find the words to describe how perfect and heartfelt it was. It was a big wedding with lots of guests, but my GOD could you feel the love for Jeff & Emily from each and every one of them. It was incredibly special.
The saying “it takes a village” rings true for how this wedding came together. They put the tent up themselves a couple of weeks before the wedding, and worked tirelessly to ensure the property was in tip top shape to host a backyard wedding. Not only that, but the bride’s dad handmade a bar (it was SO cool), a walkway to the tent, high top tables for cocktail hour, annnnd they brewed all of their own beer for the occasion. The cake was made by family members, the live music during the ceremony and first dance was from the bride’s family, the bride’s sister did everyone’s makeup the morning-of. I could go on and on. It is endless. It was such a testament to the monumental love that everyone has for these two.
As guests arrived and mingled (and set up their tents for that night – that’s right, some of the guests camped out), Emily and the girls got ready upstairs. There is something so special about getting married at the house you grew up in. It was comfortable, relaxed, and light-hearted. The girls rocked out to Lizzo as they put their final touches on, and off to the ceremony it was.
The bride’s uncle officiated the ceremony. And Emily & Jeff wrote the most beautiful handwritten vows. Oh, and they forgot the rings upstairs in the house, which was hilarious. There were tears, and laughter, and it was the kind of love you can feel in your soul. Goodness, this wedding was perfection.
Jeff and Emily prioritized spending time with their guests during cocktail hour. So after finishing up a few photos after the ceremony, they got to enjoy a few pints, and chat with all of their loved ones as guests played lawn games, kids swam in the pool (they even hired a lifeguard for the day!), and everyone enjoyed the property.
Dinner was served under the tent. Speeches were both funny and heartwarming, and the sunset – can we talk about that glorious sunset walk through the field for their golden hour photos?! Oh lordy it was amazing. Thank you, Jeff & Emily, for trusting the vision and for going all in – throwing your dress up in the air and spinning around in the field for the fun of it.
Backyard weddings are my jam. Kind hearted and loving family and friends and couples so wildly in love will never, ever get old. Thank you, Jeff & Emily, for this great privilege. This day will be on my ‘favourite weddings’ list forever and ever.
