Abby + Henry’s Billings Estate Wedding was absolute perfection. I knew from our very first meeting at a cute little coffee shop that these were my kind of people. I am so darn grateful for the two of them.
Billings Estate, September, 60 guests, outdoor ceremony and reception, and a timeline that prioritized spending time with their guests. Literally a dream! I know I say it all the time, but I really love it when couples forget about the “traditions” and plan the wedding that they want to have. It just makes me so happy.
Abby got ready with her two closest girlfriends at a nearby Ottawa hotel. Important side note: this was the day after the tornadoes touched down in Ottawa. Driving into the city was a little eerie as all of the traffic lights were out, none of the businesses were open because they were all without power, and the streets were dead. It was weird for a Saturday morning in Ottawa. But, as luck would have it, Abby’s hotel had power, so hair and makeup went off without a hitch. This whole day was calm, and laid back. The girls did their own makeup, and took their time relaxing at the hotel.
Henry and his best man got dressed at Billings Estate, just in time for the first look outside on the museum grounds. Guests arrived by bus, and shared stories of power outages, running out of gas, and traffic snarls because of the traffic lights being down. Something about getting married amidst the chaos was really quite special. Made everyone feel just that much more thankful and grateful to be safe, and to be there celebrating.
The ceremony was intimate and heartfelt. There was laughter and tears. And on their walk down the aisle afterwards, guests threw dried lavender to celebrate. It was really just a feel-good day all around.
Abby and Henry wanted to spend as much time with their guests that they could, so they spent cocktail hour mingling and chatting with everyone. Abby’s sister sang throughout cocktail hour and it was so beautiful. Guests were completely enamoured by her voice. She even finished with an original that she wrote just for Abby & Henry’s wedding.
And, as I had expected, the speeches were equally as touching and heartfelt as the rest of the day. The loveliest people gathering to celebrate a truly genuine and kind couple. Abby & Henry’s Billings Estate wedding was one of those days that reminded me exactly why I love this job so much. Being there to document the special connections that they have in their life was magical.
Thank you, Abby + Henry. So thankful for you both and your family!!
