Luke & Yaseena’s intimate ceremony in Rockcliffe Park was more than I could have dreamed.
Here’s the scoop. Yaseena met Luke while attending school in Ireland and they now live in Belfast together. They had plans for a big Irish wedding in October. But with Yaseena’s family in Ottawa, they knew that her grandmother would be unable to travel to Ireland. So, they brought the celebration here.
Luke & Yaseena, along with some of Luke’s family members, travelled to Ottawa in September for a pre-wedding wedding. It was small and intimate and emotional and one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have photographed. When Yaseena emailed me, she made note of how this celebration would centre around family, and how important that was to her. They really wanted to capture that in photos, and I was totally up for the challenge.
We planned to meet in the Byward Market ahead of their ceremony so we could get some photos of just the two of them around some of their favourite spots in town. Having only emailed a few times beforehand, I nearly died when Yaseena got out of the car looking like an absolute goddess. Within minutes we were walking and laughing our way around the market. It was a gorgeous September day and everything felt perfect.
After capturing some photos of just the two of them, we made our way to The Rockeries at Rockcliffe Park for their intimate ceremony. Family was gathering and anxiously awaiting their arrival. Before long, Yaseena made her way down the pathway with her parents on either side. Everyone gathered in closely and listened to their beautiful ceremony. And just as they finished signing the paperwork, family members threw rose petals to celebrate.
There were hugs and tears and laughs and more tears. I was even tearing up behind the camera. It was so sweet to watch Luke & Yaseena take it all in and cry together after everything was official. It was beautiful. And so so heartfelt. Watching both Luke & Yaseena share special moments with her grandmother was really what this whole celebration was about. And it was so real.
It’s these types of gatherings and celebrations that bring me the most joy to photograph. And I am so grateful to have connected with Luke & Yaseena despite the distance. Can’t wait to catch up with them in Ireland some day!!
