Jon & Jenna planned the sweetest little wedding at The Cameron in Ottawa last May (almost a year already, how did that happen). They made it their own, and we all know I love it when a couple does what they want lol.
These two exchanged vows with just 15 people present, in a quick and beautiful ceremony. Jenna’s best friend’s mom officiated. Jenna’s grandmother was present via FaceTime. And everyone grabbed a drink beforehand so it felt less formal and a little more comfortable. There were no chairs, everyone just gathered around in a semi-circle. And there were plenty of hugs and tears to go around afterwards. It’s just the sweetest when I get to witness these types of intimate ceremonies. 🖤
One hour after the ceremony, they had all of their other family and friends showing up for what they called their “engagement party”. Jon & Jenna didn’t want anyone to feel any pressure attending a formal wedding, so they played it off as their engagement party and pulled an oh-so-casual “oh by the way, we got married right before the party”! So fun. Some of their guests had caught on to their plan ahead of time, but others genuinely didn’t know that they had gotten married just an hour earlier!!
Before the majority of guests arrived, we snuck out for some photos at a nearby green space. It had been a rainy day (the ceremony was originally supposed to be outside), but we took advantage of a quick 7 minute break in the rain and got some really sweet photos. Jenna was barefoot laughing and walking through the wet grass – my kind of bride. “Rain ain’t no thang when you’re in love” – right, Jenna?!!
Heading back to the party, they were able to greet their guests, share lots of hugs, and celebrate. Gigantic cheese boards, a popcorn machine, and endless amounts of sweets and cakes (made by the bride herself). That’s right. Jenna is the owner of Hashtag Bake and made every single treat and cake at their wedding. It was insane and I cannot even imagine how much work went into preparing for it all!
A couple of impromptu speeches and toasts, tons of laughs, and dancing to finish off the night. This sweet wedding at The Cameron was so fun. You know I love the small intimate weddings. And given the current global situation, these might become more and more common, and I’m okay with that!
Fun Fact: Jenna loves broccoli, and wanted it incorporated into her bouquet as a fun personal touch. And it. was. stunning. Like woah! Pollen Nation knocked it out of the park and Jenna was over the moon excited about it. Spot the broccoli below:
