Evan & Candace had a gorgeous summer wedding at The Sussex Contemporary back in 2018. (I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to share.) It was a beautiful weather day, and these two brought some serious style to their wedding. I remember meeting with Candace beforehand and knowing immediately that I was going to love this day. She described their plans as informal, laid-back and easy-going. Helllllllo dream day.
Evan got ready at their condo in the market, his dad and brother there to share a drink with. And Candace got ready at a gorgeous loft space in the Byward Market. She had her mom, sister, and a bunch of girlfriends hanging out with her and it was – without a doubt – the most chill bridal prep I have ever photographed. Candace had her hair and makeup done while the rest of the ladies chatted, snacked, shared champagne, and laughed. It was amazing. I couldn’t think of a better way to get ready for your wedding!
Once they were ready, Evan & Candace met at a small courtyard in the market for their first look. Just the two of them. And then we wandered around the market for a bit to take some photos and met up with their families before heading over to their ceremony.
Their ceremony took place at The Sussex Contemporary. There were a few chairs for family, and everyone else cozied up and stood in the gallery to watch. There’s something about people crowding around and standing close to one another watch a ceremony that feels so special. It definitely added to the informal feel that Evan & Candace were going for. It felt fun and intimate. The ceremony itself was beautiful with both laughter and tears, and tons of personality throughout.
Afterwards it was nothing but smiles, hugs, mingling, and laughter. The reception part of the evening was so chill. A giant charcuterie board, tons of hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and a warm summer evening in the market. Like a breath of fresh air.
I loved this laid back downtown summer wedding, and The Sussex Contemporary was the perfect venue for Evan & Candace.
