My brother and sister-in-law got married in my parent’s backyard on August 4th and it was incredible.

Lee and Nicole planned to get married August 1 of next year. But weddings are expensive and stressful, and they just couldn’t picture themselves fussing over all of the details for 12 months. So, they decided to throw a surprise wedding.

In just 8 weeks they hired a DJ, booked an officiant (a longtime family friend), had the bride’s family fly in from Nova Scotia, bought their outfits, wedding bands, decorations, hired a food truck, and planned long-weekend parties in order to have all of their friends and family present. It was a lot of work but the outcome was amazing. Such a joyous day that really was all about celebrating Lee and Nicole!

It rained during the ceremony, but it was so special because all of the family and friends were huddled close together under umbrellas and trees as Lee and Nicole said their vows. I think the rain made the ceremony feel even more intimate! And the weather cleared up in time for dancing and food.

Congratulations, Lee & Nicole. I love you both dearly and wish you all the happiness life has to offer. Xox

A HUGE thank-you to Ellen Chambers who was there to photograph with me – couldn’t have done it without her!
