When David reached out and shared his plans for a surprise proposal to Evan on their 8th anniversary, I was immediately on board!! A surprise winter proposal, with a custom lock for the Corktown Bridge downtown Ottawa (also known as the love lock bridge), at sunset. So so so sweet.
And so David made it happen! They had walked over the bridge previously, and David mentioned to Evan that he wanted to get a lock for them – so it wouldn’t seem too suspicious when they went for a walk on their anniversary to the bridge. And so on the day-of, off they were for a walk across to the bridge. Once they got there, David showed Evan the lock he got – engraved on one side with the first message they exchanged, and then on the other side with their names, the date, and the big question!! As Evan turned to put the lock on the bridge, David got down on one knee and proposed!!
After a ‘yes’ and putting the ring on Evan’s finger, they shared a really sweet hug as passersby congratulated them. (That was one of my favourite parts – seeing how excited other pedestrians were for them, just the sweetest!!)
So after taking a moment to soak it all in, we went for a walk along the canal for some photos of the two of them. It was a cold December day, but the light was beautiful, and the views of the city were lovely! We kept moving to stay as warm as possible, and after a few photos on the balcony at the NAC, they bundled back up and were off to celebrate with a fancy dinner downtown with friends!!
Surprise proposals are always so special to photograph, and this was one for the books!! Such happiness!!
